Beneteau First 40 “JASON” – Performance Racing Yacht

Beneteau First 40 “JASON” is a highly optimised 2011 performance sailing yacht, prepared for serious coastal and offshore racing. She is based on the proven Beneteau First 40 platform, a model recognised worldwide for strong regatta results and competitive offshore performance.

This yacht is a special project developed with Italian yacht designer Alessandro Paganini and sailing designer Flavio Formosa. A new 2,700 kg T-keel was designed for the boat, increasing the draft to 2.60 m and improving upwind performance, stability and racing efficiency. The rudder was also modified using a specially designed template, with increased area and length for more precise and responsive handling.

“JASON” is equipped with a carbon mast, hydraulic mast jack, hydraulic backstay tensioner, carbon steering wheel, carbon spinnaker pole and carbon bowsprit. This setup allows efficient rig tuning for different wind and sea conditions and gives the crew the flexibility to use both symmetrical and asymmetric sails during offshore races.

The sail inventory is extensive and performance-focused. It includes a carbon semi-battened mainsail from 2021, carbon J1 from 2021, carbon J2 from 2023, Dacron J3 from 2017, S1.5 spinnaker from 2017, S2 spinnaker from 2021, and A1 and A3 gennakers from 2021.

The underwater hull has been faired using special templates for improved streamlining and finished with Speedy Carbonium racing antifouling. The exhaust was moved from the side to the stern to reduce drag. All running rigging has been replaced with Gottifredi Maffioli ropes for maximum performance.

The interior has been carefully weight-optimised for racing. The bow cabin has been converted into an easily accessible sail storage area, the bow water tank was removed, lockers and doors were replaced with lightweight textile solutions, wooden floorboards were replaced with lightweight plastic sandwich panels, and the gas stove was replaced with a lighter alternative.

Despite the racing focus, comfort has not been forgotten. The yacht has 3 cabins and 1 electric head. Mattresses have been replaced with new Sunbrella mattresses, a Webasto heater has been installed, all lights and water taps have been replaced, and a 150 W inverter is fitted on board. The cockpit has a special non-slip coating.

Electronics were upgraded in 2021 with a full NKE package, including racing computer, autopilot, mast repeaters and wind instruments.

“JASON” is maintained in excellent racing condition, with continuous updates to equipment, electronics, sails and hull preparation. She has MCA Category 2 and ISAF Category 1 safety preparation and can race with a crew of up to 12 people.
